Part-Time Workers Are Barely Getting By – but “Opportunity to Work” Could Fix It

The Center for Popular Democracy is pushing pack against the trend of big corporations making low-wage positions part-time in order to avoid paying benefits and decent wages. In San Jose, they’re advancing an “Opportunity to Work” measure that would require large companies to offer additional work hours to current employees before hiring additional staff. As with other recent economic justice campaigns, this local campaign could be just the first domino.
